Farmer’s Market Eau Claire Wisconsin
Every week (most) people buy groceries. We all like to have fresh produce for our recipes and snacks; the fresher the produce the better (that’s not an opinion, it’s a fact).
These days almost every town has a farmer’s market where you can get fresh, quality, handpicked produce. So why go to a super-store to get produce that’s been in storage for days? By shopping at the farmers market you can see the passion of the people who take care of their produce. You’re not only bringing home the best produce in a 100 mile radius, but you’re forming a relationship with the farmers that are ensuring you’re getting the best from the harvest.
You’re not only helping yourself, but you’re also helping your community’s economy, and the planet’s health.
It is cheaper?
Cheaper than organic produce in the super market: Most likely
Cheaper than mass-produced-long-distance-transported-frozen vegetables: Maybe…maybe not.
Why buy at your local farmers market?
1 – The strawberries on that smoothie you’re having were picked off the plant this morning.
2 – Those irregular shaped green onions you got there… they look like that because they are grown using non-GMO seeds.
3 – Most fruits and vegetables are seasonal, meaning when the season hits, you’re getting the sweetest deal ever, man !!!
4 – You dodge the hassle. Have you ever been in the super market trying to choose a avocado, cantaloupe (or whatever) that is the perfect ripeness? Buying at the farmers market takes away this hassle because farmers only bring produce that is ripe. If you have doubts just ask them, they know their shit.
5 – Remember we just talked about how ripe the produce is? Well, that means that not only tastes better, but that they’re more nutritious .
6 – You support the local economy and local families by buying locally.
7 – Better for the environment. Lets say that you don’t care about pesticides, chemicals fertilizers and all that, alright? well, in that case it’s simple: no big truck transporting the products means less air pollution, as simple as that.
8 – Less packaging = less trash. Bringing your own reusable shopping bag, instead of having the farmer give you a plastic bag, will help reduce waste to nothing.
9 – You save a lot of money when you buy seasonal produce.
10 – It’s fun, helps you socialize, and get some fresh air!
Plus, if you’re as lucky as me, you have an amazing partner who makes shopping for groceries a fun adventure.
