The 5-3-1 Rule
Think back to all the times you and your partner finally get time to go on a date… when suddenly you’re stuck in indecision and indecisiveness. I have been guilty myself of saying things like “I don’t care, you pick.” When lets be real, I did care. This is where the 5, 3, 1 rule comes in!
How it works
Lets say for example you are picking a place to eat.
The first person picks FIVE places they want to eat.
Then, of those five, the other person picks THREE.
Lastly the first person (who picked the five to start) picks ONE of the remaining three places.
The 5, 3, 1 rule holds both people accountable in the decision-making process. You can use this rule in various ways other than a date night agenda such as, which house to buy, what to do with the kids on a rainy day, or even baby names. Using this rule helps avoid one person making all or none of decisions in the relationship, creating better balance and more action.
